.ca is the country code top level domain [ccTLD] exension for Canada. The central registry for the .ca domain name is the Canadian Internet Registration Authority which is sometimes referred to by the name CIRA. In order to register a .ca domain name you have to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.  There still are some third-level .regional ca domain names in use as they were previously available for each of the country’s provinces [yourdomain.bc.ca] . In late 2010 registration of new third level .ca domain names was discontinued and since then only second level .ca domain names have been allowed for new registrations.
